The challenge.
Recruiters screen up to 180 applications per role and decide within five to seven seconds based on keywords. PDFs are boring but an absolute must, while job seekers simply don't know where to start with their CV. The tool had to satisfy both sides.
How it all began
A cool CV website built for the founder sparked a crazy idea: could we build a generator anyone could use to create such an appealing CV? A first round of UX research set out to find the answer.
User research, indispensable in product development
Research made it clear that an interactive CV website clashed with the stressful recruiting reality. PDFs remain mandatory. At the same time everyone wanted better CVs, and job seekers often didn't even know where to begin. Solving that problem for both sides became the core idea behind Cubra.
Working with AI requires problem-solving skills
Cubra started on GPT-3, for which we painstakingly collected our own training data, until GPT-3.5 made it obsolete overnight. Today Cubra runs on GPT-4: slower, but with far higher-quality text instead of gibberish.
The approach.

Understand the recruitment workflow
Interviews with recruiters revealed how CVs are really screened, in seconds and by keyword. That defined the product's requirements.

Pull data from LinkedIn
Instead of manually feeding the AI, a single LinkedIn link is enough. ChatGPT transfers all profile information straight into the Cubra profile.

From GPT-3 to GPT-3.5 to GPT-4
We stayed on the cutting edge of models, migrating the technology multiple times to improve both quality and speed.

User-friendliness first
Complex chat ideas were dropped in favour of the proven method: generate a CV first, then let users edit the document as they please.
Result
Cubra generates professional, ATS-friendly PDF CVs from a single LinkedIn link. With the help of ChatGPT, the software automatically transfers all profile data and phrases it to match the job advertisement, no copying, no syncing, just one link.
